MAIBOHM / RACINE / SANDUSKY / USA ( 1916 - 1923 )
The MAIBOHM Motors started car production in Ohio in 1916. The company was named after the founder Peter C. Maibohm who was a wagonmaker and real estate man. In the German Wikipedia you can read that he was also a blacksmith, but there is no evidence. He offered an assembled car using a 4-cylinder engine.
The company´s best production year had been 1920 when they built 1,212 cars.
After a fire Maibohm moved from Racine to Sandusky in 1919, and was thereafter under the leadership of it´s second president Harry C. Maibohm.
In 1923 a refined Maibohm was offered as a Courier. 373 Courier cars were sold only and car production ceased still that year. Don´t mess it up with the COURIER Car Company of Dayton / Ohio ( 1909 - 1912 ).
The name of Maibohm means: tree in the month of may (maypole) |

Peter C. Maibohm was my Great Great Uncle. He was the founder & 1st president of Maibohm Motors in Racine WI in 1916. Prior to producing automobiles, the Maibohm company produced wagons in Racine. (What is the reference source for saying that Peter Maibohm was a blacksmith ?
ReplyDeleteI question whether that's a correct statement or not factual. )
Maibohm Motors moved to Sandusky OH after a fire in the Racine factory in 1919, and was thereafter under the leadership of it's 2nd president Harry C. Maibohm, Peter Maibohm's son.
Thank you in advance for correcting your nice Maibohm Motors entry .-- Andrew J. Alexander
Thank you for your advice. I made an update. Do you think that Peter C. Maibohm immigrated from Germany because of the typical German family name ?
