DERBY / FRANCE

 DERBY / COURBEVOIE / FRANCE ( 1921 - 19336 )

The company was founded in 1921 by Bernard  Motet and Georges Goett. Previously, they built towing devices and traded in Harley-Davidson motorcycles.

The automobile was called DERBY.  The word DERBY stands for equestrian competitions or sporting contests between neighbors. Not a bad name for an automobile. It was so good that it was used a second time,  not in France, but in Canada.

A decline in demand led to the end of automobile production in 1936.

The first DERBY had a script only, alas no emblem.

To my knowledge the first enameled emblem appeared in 1922/ 1923:

Size
 6.0 cm x 4.0 cm
Yearc. 1922 - 1925
Estimate

backside without makers mark

1925 advertisment in Englebert magazine (Derby written in curved letters)

In 1926 / 1927 the emblem was modernized. No more curved letters but block letters:

Size
 6.0 cm x 4.0 cm
Yearc. 1926 - 1936
Estimate

1926 advertisement. DERBY written in block letters

There was a second automobile called DERBY, but this car was made in Canada in 1924.

The Canadian DERBY has nothing to do with the french DERBY. For more information click here.

For more emblems see older posts or top right ( lis of car makers ).
