HASSLER / USA

A small car of short life and very limited production, the HASSLER was available only as a two seater roadster.
HOUK wire wheels were standard equipment [Georgano].
So what you see on the emblems are these wire wheels.
Several Hasslers were shown during the automobile show in Chicago in summer 1917.
May be that it was the total production as the founder decided that it is not the time to place a new car on the market.

an original Hassler radiator emblem was sold via ebay for more than $ 1,000 in 2017

Dimensions 4.3 cm x 6.9 cm
Year1917
Estimate

As it is rare and expensive Harry Pulfer of California reproduced this emblem  in the nineteensixties:

KRIT / USA

KRIT MOTOR Co. / DETROIT / USA ( 1905 - 1915 )

The KRIT  (K-R-I-T)  Motor Co. started car production in Detroit / Michigan in 1909.
They offered four-cylinder cars for the whole of their lives, except for 1913 when a KRIT Six was marketed for that single year.
As emblem the swastika has been selected ( years before Adolf Hitler abused the emblem) to ensure favor of auspicious gods !
The company was in financial trouble most of the time and car production  ceased in 1915.

1914 - 1916 brochure showing the blue / white emblem

As it is rare and expensive  Harry Pulfer reproduced this emblem choosing the wrong colors.
The colors red, black and white were used for the NAZI swastika. I have never seen a KRIT radiator with an emblem in these colors. Only accessories like pins and brooches are showing these colors.

for more information about Harry Pulfer go to  the post " Harry Pulfer "

Very few KRIT vehicles have survived. But there was a drawing of the early KRIT emblem, which was made by the swedish boy Gustaf Moeller back in the 1920s. Gustaf lived near the ferry port in Helsingborg / Sweden and drew the emblems of the waiting cars there. What a great hobby that still helps and delights us a hundred years later:

FOSTORIA / USA

The FOSTORIA Light Car and Co was active from 1915 to 1916. A total of 293 FOSTORIA cars were built by September 1916. Reportedly, the problem was the engine FOSTORIA had bought from Sterling Motors in Milwaukee.  They were lemons [ Kimes, Clark ].

As it is incredible rare Harry Pulfer from California reproduced the emblem in the nineteen-sixties of the last century. As pattern he used a black and white advertisement.
As you can see the colors are different and the emblem is flat while the original is curved.

BERGDOLL / USA

Louis J. BERGDOLL immigrated to Philadelphia from Germany and created a  brewery which made him a rich man.
In 1910 he decided to build his own automobile  manufactory using the  best components  available ( Westinghouse motor, Warner Gear Transmission etc ).
He offered the four-cylinder Models 30 and 40 guaranteeing 50 and 60 mph, respectively.
In 1913 the factory went into receivership and car production was ceased.

The cars used a different emblem for the 30 - 40 hp cars, as was the custom at that time:

ALSACE / USA

The ALSACE Automotive Products Co of New York   was another very short-lived company that built a modified PIEDMONT car for export only. So this car had right-hand drive. It was showed at the International Automobile Show in London in 1920.  No big sales followed and in 1921 they stopped car production.

ELYSEE / USA

The ELYSEE truck was made by the M.P. Moller Motor Car Company in Hagerstown from 1929 to 1932.               They offered a 15 and  a 30 cwt capacity truck.
These were stylish vehicles and they  had a very stylish emblem showing the Greek God Mercury with a parcel under the left arm.  You have to look years for this nice emblem.

WESTCOTT / USA

The WESTCOTT Motor Car Company started car production at Richmond / Indiana in 1909. They remained in the car business until 1925. They moved to Springfield / Ohio in 1916.
They offered an assembled car using  6-cylinder engines made by Continental.
The peak production  year was 1921 with 1,710 cars built.
In 16 years they sold less than 15,000 cars.

The first enameled radiator emblem was round. It was filed in 1917 and used from 1915 to 1916.

Dimensions
  7 cm

 1915 - 1916

Estimate

From 1917 to 1925 they  had a octagonal emblem  showing the letters V and W like Volkswagen many years later. I have no idea why there is a V as the first name of the founder Mr. Westcott was Burton.  May be it is just a special W.

Dimensions5.4 cm x 5.4 cm
Year1920 - 1925
Estimate

In the nineteensixties Harry Pulfer  reproduced this emblem. It became a bad repro because the letters of the name are originally filled up with black enamel, but here you see orange letters.

MARION - HANDLEY / USA

The MARION - HANDLEY  ( 1916 - 1918) was a continuation of the earlier MARION of Indianapolis, Indiana.
The MARION  - HANDLEY Six was a typical assembled car with a Continental 6-cylinder engine.
Only 2,085 car were built in 3 years, so you have to look years for the emblem.

COMMONWEALTH / USA

The COMMONWEALTH Motors Corporation of Joliet / Illinois near Chicago started car production in 1913 with the PARTIN - PALMER.  In 1915 it became the COMMONWEALTH to demonstrate the aim for selling cars internationally.  In 5 years they sold 4,000 cars only. The best year was 1920 with a production of 1,828 cars.
Their slogan was: " The Car with the Foundation " .
In 1922 they merged with the Markin Body Corporation and built a taxicab called CHECKER for decades.

Here you see the first COMMONWEALTH emblem:

BEN HUR / USA

The BEN HUR Motor Co was a short lived company. It started car production in 1917. The founder L.L. Allen named the car after the street Ben Hur Avenue where the factory plants were situated because already in 1917 there had been half a dozen of car manufacturers named Allen.
Maybe 40 cars have been built in two years and so the emblem is one of the most wanted emblems by any serious collector. The last original BEN HUR emblem was sold via ebay in 2007 for more than 1,200 USD.  In 2015 the next original BEN HUR emblem was sold for remarkable 2,125 USD !
