VOLVO / SWEDEN

VOLVO radiator emblem
This is the oldest VOLVO radiator emblem of my collection. It is from the type PV4, made from 1927 to 1928, the first VOLVO ever. You can see that the  colors are not separated by a dam as usual to prevent an intermixture between the white and blue. So the production of this emblem is quite difficult. You find the same technique on every original BUGATTI emblem !

to avoid tensions when cooling the emblem after the firing process the reverse  is enameled too, but no maker´s mark

VOLVO started in the automobile business very late. In 1927 they built their first car. Here you see the second VOLVO radiator emblem. There is a manufacturers mark on the reverse: SPORRONG & CO  STOCKHOLM. Without this mark it is a repro !  So please have also at the backside. This is another pre- war VOLVO emblem. You find it on the hood of the VOLVO PV 51 - PV 56 from 1936 to 1938.
Only 2,800 cars of this type were built.

there are two version: one for the left side and one for the right side of the hood

In 1977 VOLVO celebrated its 50th anniversary. So there was an emblem referring in color and shape to the first VOLVO emblem from 1927/1928 (see top of the page).
