CHARRON / PUTEAUX / FRANCE ( 1901 - 1930 )
The three former racing drivers Fernand Charron, Léonce Girardot and Emile Voigt founded the company “Charron, Giradot & Voigt” in 1900. Initially, four-cylinder cars with chain drive were produced under the name “CGV”, obviously the initial letters of the founders' names.
From 1906, F. Charron continued the production of the vehicles in his company under the name “SOCIETE DES AUTOMOBILES CHARRON Ltd.”.
“Ltd” is the well-known abbreviation for limited liability. However, it is unclear to me why a French company would choose the English name instead of the French term “SARL”.
By the way, CHARRON kept to the technical concept of installing the radiator behind the engine for many years. There is therefore a real risk of confusion with RENAULT, which also paid homage to this technical system.
Trucks are also said to have been built under these names. This company existed until 1930 and in 1931 the factory facilities were acquired by UNIC.
