LENOX / BOSTON / USA

 LENOX / BOSTON / LAWRENCE / USA  ( 1911 - 1917 )

The LENOX Motor car Company started in Boston / Massachusetts in 1911. The first LENOX was designed by Chester. T. Bares who previously was resposible for the MORSE. It was a 27hp 4-cylinder car. In 1913 they offered a 40hp and a 60hp six. In 1915 the company started truck and tractor production and therefore moved to Lawrence / Massachusetts. In 1917 it was all over.  Production numbers are unknown but must have been very low.  Even the Swigart Museum in Huntingdon, Pennsylvania, which to my knowledge has the largest collection of American emblems, does not have a LENOX emblem.

The emblem shows the French fleur de lys. Unfortunately, I don't know why this symbol is on this American car. Were there any relations with France?

Very few LENOX vehicles have survived. But there was a drawing of the LENOX emblem, which was made by the swedish boy Gustaf Moeller back in the 1920s. Gustaf lived near the ferry port in Helsingborg / Sweden and drew the emblems of the waiting cars there. What a great hobby that still helps and delights us a hundred years later:

Last not least there is also a LENOX hub cap:

There was a second, much simpler emblem, which was also drawn by Gustav Moeller. Perhaps it is from a Lenox truck or tractor. The simple design would suggest this. It is very similar to the hub cap. But the hubcap has no screws you can see on the drawing:
