STANDARD SUPERIOR / STUTTGART - LUDWIGSBURG / GERMANY ( 1933 - 1935 )
The name Standard for an automobile factory was very popular. In "The Beaulieu Encyclopaedia of the Automobile" alone, 15 (!) manufacturers are listed with this name. This post is about the German STANDARD SUPERIOR.
The STANDARD SUPERIOR was a small car with a two-cylinder two-stroke engine mounted at the rear with 12 bhp developed by Josef Ganz and built by the motorcycle factory Standard Fahrzeugbau GmbH, founded by Wilhelm Gutbrod in Ludwigsburg in 1926, from 1933 to 1935. It was one of several vehicle models of the 1920s and 1930s from different manufacturers that called their vehicle "VOLKSWAGEN".
In two years about 400 cars were sold. After WWII W. Gutbrod built vehicles under his own name, such as the Gutbrod Superior. He therefore continued to use the name SUPERIOR for his vehicles.
