BERNARD / FRANCE truck

BERNARD / FRANCE  ( 1929 - 1962 )

BERNARD was a very famous truck in France, producing heavy duty trucks from 1929 to 1962.
They always had this lovely emblem on the front showing a model. Only in 1936 there was another emblem.
No, her name is not Eleanor V. Thornton...          It is a man !
You can read on the emblem: LE COEUR ET LES MUSCLES DE L´ATHLETE COMPLET.
That means: The body and the muscles from a perfect athlete.
I only know this two emblem colors: orange and light green.

Rare green emblem:

Green front emblem. I don´t know where and when it was used.

1955 advertisment showing the emblem

The next shown emblem was used in 1936 only. You see the two letters  E B in the middle of the emblem. It can be assumed that Ettore Bugatti forbade Eduard Bernard the consise use of the two letters EB, and therefore the Bernard company had to re-mount the old emblem as of 1937 and continuously do so until the middle of the 1950s.

1936 advertisment with emblem

Very few BERNARD vehicles have survived. But there was a drawing of a BERNARD emblem, which was made by the swedish boy Gustaf Moeller back in the 1930s. Gustaf lived near the ferry port in Helsingborg / Sweden and drew the emblems of the waiting cars there. What a great hobby that still helps and delights us a hundred years later:

may be the truck didn´t stop long enough for an accurate drawing.....
