PEUGEOT / SOCHAUX / FRANCE (1896 - today)
It is a
pleasure to collect Peugeot emblems. Because of their history of more
than 120 years you still have the chance to find a never seen Peugeot
emblem. My collection started with Peugeot emblems in the seventies. Now
I own about 40 different prewar Peugeot emblems. And there are a lot
more emblems if you also collect the younger emblems.
So I'll
start with an advertisement from the 1960s when PEUGEOT had an assembly
plant in Canada. Of course, sex sells, or how should we understand this
liberal ad with ambiguous text? Nowadays such an ad would be
unthinkable, PEUGEOT could close its assembly plant right away.....

The
PEUGEOT type 404 emblem to the left was the specific emblem for
Argentine. In Europe, it was only seen as an emblem on spare parts
packaging

In 1913 the famous PEUGEOT Bébé was offered with an engine constructed by Ettore BUGATTI.
Here you see the lovely brass radiator emblem. I had to buy the whole radiator to get an original emblem.
Only 3,095 cars were sold.

Finally I found an ad with a round Peugeot emblem very similar to the round emblem shown above.

The PEUGEOT Type 172 had two emblems on the radiator: a simple brass emblem with the letters 5CV and an enameled emblem on top

In the twenties of the last century, PEUGEOT also offered vehicles with 6-cylinder engines:

Here you see the typical Peugeot emblems of the twenties:
Ther was a small and a large version. The large version is very rare. You find it on the type 153.
So the evaluation is for the large version:

From 1924 to 1929 there was a PEUGEOT production plant in Milano / Italy.
Of course they had their own emblem, but still made in the French style of the type 201.

In 1936 PEUGEOT started new series of cars. The large 402 in1936, the
medium sized 302 in 1937 and a compact typ 202 in 1938. All cars had a
streamline body in the style of the CHRYSLER Airflow !

While WWII the military needed vast amounts of metals to produce weapons etc.
So PEUGEOT built the emblem in Bakelite, the first synthetic material.
These war emblems are hard to find:

PEUGEOT had a very good restart after the Second World War. To make the
newly developed type 203 model known to the public, it was also given a
specific emblem on the trunk in 1949. This was elaborately designed and
highly sought after by collectors:

PEUGEOT mounted this emblem on the trunk lid of the Type 203 in 1950 and
on the front of the bus D3A, D4A and D4A from 1950 to 1965:

The following emblem was also mounted on the front of the PEUGEOT bus
type D3A and D4A until 1960. On the D4B it was replaced by a simple
lettering, which was also used on the saloons built in parallel. This
was probably purely a cost-saving measure.

My
favorite Peugeot bus photo. It was taken by myself when I spent my
vacation in France in 1982. The two emblems described above can be seen
on the front. I hope that this bus has survived.

The following emblem was mounted on the front of the type 203 from 1949
to 1959. Due to the high number of PEUGEOT 203s built, it is still very
easy to find in good original condition.

In the last model year of the Peugeot 203, the emblem was moved to the hood and given a different but similar design:
